China is the third largest and most populated country in the world, with a population of about 1.4 billion people. The country is widely known for different inventions like kites, toilet paper, the compass, and even gunpowder. China is a country experiencing very fast growth in its economy and is soon to become the world’s largest economy.

Reasons to Migrate to China

Here are some of the reasons to migrate to China:

  • Accommodation is cheap in China. You can rent villas or spacious apartments for a reasonable price.
  • The countries’ rapid economic growth means more job opportunities for everyone, especially people with professional training.
  • China offers amazing natural scenery like beaches, rivers, mountains, forests, and deserts. Some great locations include the Himalayan mountain, Li River, Guilin, and the Huangshan mountains.
  • Chinese people are friendly, and you’ll have a good time socializing with them. This is important for your daily life.
  • The country has a rapidly growing ex-pat community. This community is characterized by ex-pat based in major cities, with sports groups and sets of activities.

Reasons not to Migrate to China

Some of the people who have migrated from Thailand to China had the following complaints. However, it’s not the same for everybody, and shouldn’t be enough reason to change your mind about migrating.

Here are some of the complaints:

  • A very common complaint among many people is the lack of proper hygiene standards.
  • For people looking for a quiet place to live, China may not be a perfect spot to migrate.
  • Due to urban overpopulation and large-scale industrial activities, China is regarded as a polluted country.
  • Internet activity is monitored in China. You might want to consider this before moving.

Getting a Visa

Depending on the type and purpose of your visit, there are different types of visas for China. There are so many papers to complete before you can obtain a visa, and it often requires patience. For stays longer than 72 hours, you may require one of the following visas:

  • L Visa (Tourist): Most of the visitors to China are tourists, and they only need an L visa. It is important to note that the G visa and the L visa do not need government, academic institutions, or business approval. You must have a passport with a minimum validity of 6 months and complete other procedures before you can be eligible for the L visa.
  • F Visa (Business): This type of visa can only be obtained by invitation, and it is for foreigners who are invited for scientific research, education seminars, noncommercial business exchange, or sporting events. It is important to note that this visa is different from the work visa.
  • X Visa (Student): Students that need the student in China for a minimum of 6 months will need to obtain the X visa. However, with this visa, you are not permitted to work while studying.
  • M Visa: This visa is issued to people that wish to migrate to China for trade and commercial purposes. The visa is not hard to process, and it takes only about 4 to 5 days.
  • Z Visa (Work): Everyone who wants to work in China must have a Z visa. Just like with other visas, you can only obtain this one after following due procedures. Also, you must note that the Z visa has a validity of only 30 days.

Residency and Citizenship

The applications for residency and citizenship are done within China, and these processes can usually be tiring. Sometimes it’s best you leave the job for your employee.

Temporary Residency

  • Upon arriving in China, you have a period of 30 days to get the temporary residency permit. The residency permit is granted for a period of 5 years.
  • Within 24 hours of your arrival in China, you must report to a police station to list your name as a resident in the area. You also complete every other necessary thing. That also includes medical exams, among others.
  • After you have completed all the requirements, you’d be required to proceed to the department of foreign affairs. That is where you will confirm your identity and submit every other document.

The whole process of getting a temporary residency permit usually takes between 1 to 6 weeks.

Permanent Residency

This residency is not issued to everybody. Here are the group of people that qualify for permanent residency:

  • People with permanent employment
  • Foreign investors
  • Depends on people with citizenship or permanent jobs
  • Spouse of a Chinese citizen or national

Applicants must also prove that they have invested in China for at least three years by providing tax records.

Conclusion

Migrating from Thailand to China may involve many processes, but all that is worth it in the end.  Remember that there are so many niche markets and varying business opportunities in China. Also, China is very welcoming to foreigners, and you can rest assured that you’d feel at home.
