How did I Migrate from Bangkok to Macau?
I usually laugh when people ask me how I migrated from Bangkok to Macau because the whole process usually seems like an arduous thing to accomplish. However, it was by far an easy one for me, and I’m taking out time to share everything with you. I hope my experience will be useful for you and you will be able to migrate with ease.
Each time I look through the internet about Macau, I normally see details about the city’s gambling heritage. However, when Ednewschina Editor Ricardo Mendoza shared his experience with me, my passion got ignited, and I wanted more than just a visit to this city. I wanted to migrate fully and even start working there. So how did I begin the whole process, and what did I do right? Read on to find out.
My name is Sampan Michaelson, and I’m 25 years old. I recently graduated from the Mahasarakham University, where I studied fine art. I graduated in the year 2018, and I’ve worked in different places since then, it ranges from restaurants to hotels, cafes, and so many others. Pretty sure you are wondering why I kept on changing work during these periods. The main reason is that I lacked the passion for these jobs, and I wasn’t satisfied with what I was doing, even though the pay was juicy and I was living well. I always had this feeling of lack of satisfaction. I needed a place where I can work happily and enjoy what I do.
In November 2020, I stopped my last job, and alongside a few friends, we decided to go on a short trip to Macau. This was one of the most exciting journeys I’ve ever been on, and it was mainly because we knew the right things to do and things to avoid in Macau. The journey lasted only for a week, and while we were there, we got busy with so many activities, including gambling at different casinos. I’ve always been a passionate gambler, and my skills are beyond measure. Some call it luck, but I call it a gift.
Macau is known for the numerous casinos, and we got to visit quite a few of these casinos. Each time we were at these casinos, I couldn’t help but notice how excited I was about being in such an atmosphere. It was then that I realized that I needed to work in an actual casino. That was the only way I will get the job fulfillment I’ve always wanted. So I made a few inquiries each time we visited, and surprisingly, there was an opening at the Venetian Macao. So I applied while there without hesitation. However, we were to return back to Bangkok by the weekend, and it was certain that I would need to migrate if I get the job at this casino fully.
After a few weeks, I was contacted by the casino management, and a virtual interview was scheduled, which I attended. It was a very short one, and after a few days, I received a call telling me that I’ve been hired. You can imagine the excitement that filled my soul when I got this information. I was so happy that I couldn’t wait to break the news to everyone I know.
I also had to hasten up my arrangement so that I can go back to Macau within the shortest possible time. The first thing I needed to do was to get a work visa. Interestingly, there are two different types of work visas in Macau which are:
– Visa for occasional workers
– Visa for non-skilled and skilled workers
In my own case, what I needed was a visa for non-skilled and skilled workers. In general, getting a visa or work permit in Macau can be the most difficult process you’d ever have to go through. The main reason for this is the strict rules and regulations in place. In Law 21/2009, you’ll find the guidelines that are used for hiring people who are non-residents of Macau. This law states that the Human Resources Bureau must first approve the hiring before anything.
Even though the process is usually strict for some people, it was very easy for me. The fact that I had the needed academic qualifications, which is a requirement, made the whole process stress-free for me. Also, I had a few technical skillsets needed for my new job. My new employers also helped a lot in ensuring that I get the work visa within a very short time. So my greatest surprise, all the necessary documentation, and paper works were completed in January, and the only thing that was left was for me to leave Bangkok and head to Macau to resume duty.
I had to source funds because I needed a whole lot of money to sort my accommodation and a few other basic needs. Getting the money I needed wasn’t an issue because I have a supportive family, and my friends also helped a lot. I was able to travel out of Macau in January, and I also resumed work in January.
It’s close to three months now since I started working in Venetian Macau, and I have no regrets about working in this place. This was like a dream come through for me. I get to witness the joy and excitement after people win cash and the tears in their eyes each time they lose. This is something I’ve always wanted for a very long time, and I am so excited about my job. I deliver my services in this casino with passion, and I do my best to ensure that I advance my carrier and leave a mark in the sands of time.
So there you have it, a summary of how I migrated from Bangkok to Macau. Now you can see that the whole process was so easy for me, and how excited I am to have been able to pull this through. If someone ever tells you that you cannot migrate to Macau, let the person know that it’s a big lie, and if I could do it successfully, then every other person can do it. The most important thing is to have a focus and know what you want. Also, be committed to what you want to achieve, and even when you face any huddle that will make you lose focus, remember the goal you are trying to achieve and don’t avoid falling out of line.
For many, migrating to Macau from Bangkok may seem impossible, but here is a story of Sampan and how he was able to migrate with ease. Is it luck or grace? Read his story to find out how he did it.
